From genesis to revelation (1969)

No prog rock. Songs are short folk music, melody and arrangement are old-fashioned.
Strings section which was inserted against will of member killed their potential.
It is better to listen demo songs included in Genesis Archive 1967-1975.

Trespass (1970)

Awakening of prog rock Genesis. This album includes gentle and clam songs just like album cover art. The last song Knife is thrilling featuring aggressive rhythm.
Mysterious atmosphere which represents Gabriel era is weak.

Hybrid SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

S

Nursery cryme (1971)

Overwhelmed by mysterious atmosphere from an introduction of first song. Musical Box and The Fountain of Salmacis are long songs with beautiful contrast of intensity and calm.
Songs between the 2 songs are various like kaleidoscope: gentle acoustic one, eccentric one or easy-listening one.

Hybrid SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

S

Foxtrot (1972)

Supper's ready is a dramatic and mysterious 20 minutes suite including beautiful arpeggio of 12 strings guitar and aggressive battle of drum and keyboard.

Hybrid SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound. Moreover, DVD includes live footage.

B

Live (1973)

Live recording after release of Foxtrot. I haven't listened this album. According to review of Amazon.co.jp, performance is not good because member was too nervous at first live recording.

It is better to listen live performance included in Genesis Achieve 1967-1975.

A

Selling England by the pound (1973)

Mysterious atmosphere weaken. As solo part of guitar and keyboard increased, presence of Hackett and Banks increased. However, I feel their solo part too long and redundant.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound. Especially, live footage in DVD is superior. Must not miss Gabriel's performance with eccentric costume.

Blu-ray audio includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

B

The lamb lies down on Broadway (1974)

Novelistic album about strange experience a man named Rael (2CD). He wrapped in cocoon in New York City, and traveled in some strange place (too eccentric to understand). Short songs continue without cessation like suite.
Masterpiece of prog rock history, but too eccentric for beginner.

Live recording of this album is included in Genesis Archive 1967-1975.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound. DVD includes slide show of this album which was projected during live performance.

S

A trick of the tail (1976)

Rebirth of Genesis. Gabriel left the band, Collins took lead vocal.
This album includes dynamic, symphonic and dramatic sound which never heard in past albums. Ballade is very delicate and beautiful. Impressed by contrast of intensity and calm.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound. DVD includes live footage in 1976.

(SACD+DVD)

A

Wind & wuthering (1976)

Voice of Collins got dynamism and symphonic sound got thickness. In Unquiet Slumbers For The Sleepers... ...In That Quiet Earth, Hackett played heavy guitar solo which never heard in the past albums.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

B

Seconds out (1977)

Live recording after release of Wind and Wuthering. Song selection is good and performance is good. Unfortunately, Collins is immature as lead vocalist, his voice is lack of dynamism.

(SACD+DVD)

B

And then there were three (1978)

Because Hackett left the band, lyricism weakens. Length of songs shorten, but thick and symphonic sound still exists. Last half of the album includes pop songs.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

(SACD+DVD)

A

Duke (1980)

Maturity of Collins as lead rock vocalist, his voice get dynamism.

Although number of non-prog songs increased, thick and symphonic sound still exists. I am deeply impressed by suite like first 3 songs and last 2 songs. I love this album.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

(SACD+DVD)

D

Abacab (1981)

Sound was drastically changed. Symphonic prog rock color vanished. As some songs have experimental sound, this album is interesting as pop album.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

C

Three sides live (1982)

Live recording of pop Genesis after release of Abacab. Although some songs during Gabriel era are performed in medley, I feel short on fun.

(SACD+DVD)

D

Genesis (1983)

Experimental sound like Abacab disappeared and pop color is increased.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.

(SACD+DVD)

D

Invisible touch (1986)

Mega hit album. No longer prog rock album, but masterpiece as pop album.

(SACD+DVD)

C

Pop color weakens. Somber songs and long songs return, but not symphonic.

SACD+DVD includes 5.1ch surround and hi-resolution stereo sound.
