B

A piper at the gates of dawn (1967)

Including not prog rock but psychedelic pop written by Syd Barret. Very enjoyable. However, I don't recommend this to those who want to listen PF as prog rock band.

40th anniversary edition 2CD set (stereo mix and mono mix) and 3CD set (stereo mix, mono mix, and single collection) are also available.

C

A saucerful of secrets (1968)

David Gilmour joined the band as replacement of Syd Barret. Signature pieces of early days Set the Control for the Heart of the Sun and A Saucerful of Secrets are included, but rest of songs are not worth to listen.

B

More (1969)

Produced as soundtrack of movie "More" featuring acoustic and mysterious atmosphere. I feel deep euphoria when I listen this album at night with light down.

Good work but not for beginner of PF.

B

Ummagumma (1969)

2CD set of live album and studio album. Live album including 3 songs from past albums which are far better than original studio recordings with increased mystery and euphoria.

Studio album including solo number of each member which represent thier character.

I love this album, but too eccentric for beginner of PF.

D

Zabriskie point (1970)

Soundtrack of the movie "Zabriskie point". Including songs performed another artists. Songs of PF are not impressive. Only for maniac fan of PF.

B

Atom heart mother (1970)

20 minutes suite Atom Heart Mother is very dynamic and beautiful which collaborate with horn section, viola, and chorus. Gilmour's guitar solo is also impressive.

C

Relics (1971)

Compilation produced in accordance with wish of record company. Including songs from A Piper at the Gates of Dawn to More.

A

Meddle (1971)

20 minutes suite Echoes is concentrated attraction of PF sound including Gilmour's crying guitar, hard rock section and mysterious psychedelic section.

Rest songs are short folk-like one. Very enjoyable.

B

Obscured by clouds (1972)

Produced as soundtrack of movie "La Valee". Including various short songs. Sound of guitar and electric piano in Mudman fascinates us.

Shine on You Crazy Diamond is very beautiful and fascinated suite with crying guitar and soothing synthesizer.

In Nov. 2011, various version of this album will be released: 2CD (with live recordings), and 5CD (including Blu-ray contained hi-resolution sound).

A

Animals (1977)

This album shows new direction of the band to social satire. Three long songs represent human society into "dogs: soldier or salaried worker", "pigs: politician or rich man" and "sheep: ordinary people".

20 minutes suite Dogs concentrates elements of PF sound with heaviness, crying guitar play, and mysterious section.

A

Is there anybody out there? The Wall live 1980-1981 (2000)

Live footage of The Wall. This is a complete edition of The Wall included songs omitted from studio album due to length limitation of LP record.

D

Collection of great dance songs (1981)

Compilation produced in accordance with wish of record company.

New recording of Money (Gilmour played all instrument except saxophone) is included, but its quality is far from original one.

C

The final cut (1983)

Waters completely ruled the album. Just like solo album of Waters with other member as support musician (keyboardist Rick Wright did not attend).

Theme is war, atmosphere is very dark and heavy. Horn section is more impressive than band sound.

In 2004, When the Tiger Blokes Free (originally B side of single) was added.

C

Works (1983)

Compilation produced in accordance with wish of record company.

Including Embryo which did not release in past albums.

C

A momentary lapse of reason (1987)

First album of PF without Waters. In actuary, solo album of Gilmour (Mason and Wright are credited, but they did not performed).

This album includes good songs featuring Gilmour's guitar play but not prog sound.

C

Delicate sound of thunder (1988)

Live recording of PF without Waters (2CD). First one includes songs of AMLOR mainly, and second one is collection of masterpiece from past albums.

This album was precious featuring live version of past masterpieces, but not worth after release of PULSE.

B

The division bell (1994)

2nd album of PF without Waters. This album includes good songs as non-prog ordinary rock music.

If you are fan of Dave's guitar play, this album is good for you.

B

Pulse (1995)

2CD set contained live recording of Division Bell Tour. First CD includes songs from AMLOR and TDB mainly. Second CD includes full section of DSOTM.

DVD is also available.

C

Echoes The best of Pink Floyd (2001)

Real best album which member of PF selected songs (2CD). Not bad album, good as showcase. However, I don't recommend compilation, because I believe "PF completes artistic production in each album".

(CD+DVDa)

(CD+Blu-ray)

C

The endless river (2014)

Consisted with songs edited and over dubbed by Dave and Nick to song fragment recorded during session of "Division Bell".

All songs are instrumental except one song. Most songs are mild and ambient. Sometime I feel this album boredom.

DVD audio/Blu-ray audio with Hi-Res 5.1ch and stereo are also available.

A

Live at Pompeii

Live footage at Pompeii in 1971 (after release of Meddle). They performed in desolate abandoned open-air theater.

Especially, performance of Echoes is outstanding. I can't believe four person could create such a dynamic and thick sound. In A Saucerful of Secret, we can see how they create SE.

Footage during recording session of DSOTM is also included.

C

The wall

Movie of The Wall. Bob Geldof performed rock star Pink. We can understand the story of the album.

Not for beginner of PF, because it includes creepy image.

A

Pulse

2DVD set contained live recording of Division Bell Tour. First DVD includes songs from AMLOR and TDB mainly. 2nd DVD includes full of DSOTM.

Overwhelmed by colorful lighting and image projected to oval screen. It's extravaganza.

A

Live 8

Live footage of Live 8 held in Jul. 2005. Reunited PF performed 5 songs.

Performance of Sting and Paul McCartney is also included. Good for all rock fan.
