Yes (1969)

Intend to create unique rock music with jazzy rhythm and chorus. Not ordinary rock music, but arrange and mixing are old-fashioned. Far from prog rock.

C

Time and a word (1970)

Sound of bass guitar and drum is close to their golden era, but sound of guitar and organ is poor.

Orchestra was added in some song. But, I think orchestra sound killed charm of band sound.

Masterpiece which representative of the world of rock music.

One of the great prog rock live albums.

C

Progeny: Highlights from Seventy-Two

2CD set contains selected track of each song from the box set above. Best tracks are used for Yessongs, so second-best tracks are used for this album.

Sound quality is good. However, thickness and power of sound is less than Yessongs.

Beginner of Yes should listen Yessongs at first. I recommend to listen this album after you become expert of Yes.

B

Tales from topographic ocean (1974)

This album consists of four over 20 minutes songs. As it seems to force to combine many short songs into one song, all songs are diffusive.

Without thrill, too long. Some times I fell asleep during listening this album.

B

Relayer (1974)

Wakeman left the band, classical-music-like symphonic sound disappeared. But, new keyboardist Patrick Moraz brought another attraction. Over 20 minutes suit Gate of delirium is very complex and hard. But some time I feel the battle of guitar and keyboard noisy.

Blu-ray audio with hi-res 5.1ch surround is also available. Blu-ray audio also contains hi-res stereo remixed by Steven Wilson.

Rick Wakeman plays in 5 songs and Patrick Moraz in 2 songs.

In remastered CD, Roundabout and I've seen all good people are included as bonus track.

Hi-Res download files are flat transfer from original master tape.

90125 (1983)

Although sound quality is not well in some songs, enthusiasm of these day could be felt.

S

Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe (1989)

This is not an album of Yes.
Member of the golden era (except Squire) gathered to perform real Yes prog rock sound.

Songs are multimodal, dramatic, and symphonic.

D

Union (1991)

Advertisement said "It is masterpiece with eight of present/former Yes member join together", but it is goldbrick.

This album consists songs which were recorded as 2nd album of ABWH and demo track of 90125 Yes. No song is performed by "eight of present/former Yes member together".

Moreover, most sound of guitar and keyboard originally performed by Howe and Wakeman was replaced to another musicians' play in accordance with record company's request.

B

Talk (1994)

3rd album of 90125 Yes. Anderson and Rabin worked together with intension to create the representative album of Yes history.

Anterior part of the album includes 90125-like prog pop. Talk is over 20 minutes suite with dynamic and dramatic sound.

A

Keys to ascension (1996)

Sequel album of KTA1. Includes live performance and studio recorded new songs.

Rhythm is sluggish, sound is far from Yes music.

C

Fly from here (2011)

Anderson was replaced by Benoit David, a lead vocalist of tribute band. Downes returned as keyboardist, and album was produced by Trevor Horn.

If you expect Drama-like superb prog rock sound, you may be disappointed. Most songs are mild. It may be good when you want to relax after hard work.

D

Heaven & earth (2014)

Lead vocalist was replaced by Jon Davison.

There is no sense of prog rock. Most of songs are slow and mild.

I always stop playing the album by frustration.
